Walking and Hiking Routes

Roaches Hall is perfectly positioned for some of the most breathtaking walks in the Peak District. Nestled beneath the dramatic gritstone escarpment of The Roaches, the house offers direct access to a landscape rich in natural beauty, wildlife, and sweeping views that stretch for miles. Whether you’re after a gentle afternoon stroll or a more adventurous hike, there’s something for everyone right on your doorstep. Step outside and within minutes you’re on the trail. One of the most popular routes is the climb up to The Roaches ridge itself. It’s a relatively easy ascent, and once at the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views over the Staffordshire Moorlands, Tittesworth Reservoir, and even as far as Snowdonia on a clear day. The path is well-trodden but still feels wonderfully wild, with striking rock formations and open skies all around.

For a more peaceful, woodland experience, you can follow the paths down through the wooded valleys nearby. Lud’s Church – a deep, moss-covered chasm with a fascinating history – is just a short walk away and offers a magical detour. The area is also home to an abundance of wildlife, from peregrine falcons circling above the cliffs to deer and wild ponies in the surrounding hills. No need for a car or complicated planning – simply lace up your boots, walk out the front door, and you’re immersed in some of England’s finest countryside. It’s the perfect setting for walking holidays, family adventures, or simply clearing your head and enjoying nature at its best. Whether in the misty mornings or golden evening light, walks from Roaches Hall are always memorable.
